The E in Elizabeth City is for Events!

Posted on 05/30/2017 by Visit Elizabeth City

It's summertime and the living is easy in Elizabeth City, especially along the beautiful downtown waterfront. Beginning in the summer, there are great opportunities for enjoying fun in the sun or an evening by the water, depending on the day. If it's the first Friday of the month, stroll over to Main Street to experience First Friday ArtWalk, featuring gallery openings, music and art. On Saturdays, head to the Downtown Waterfront Market for locally-grown produce, freshly prepared foods, plants and artisan-made crafts. Tuesday night? Walk to the Mariners' Wharf Film Festival to see a classic American film on an outdoor screen. There's also homegrown music in a few of the city's nightspots, so ask around to find out who's playing where. Check our summer lineup. See you outside! 1 First Friday ArtsWalk (First Friday of the Month)
The first Friday of every month is fun and fabulous in Elizabeth City, thanks to a progressive evening event that turns the downtown area into a showcase for the arts from 5:30 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Visit the featured artist's exhibition at The Center at Arts of the Albemarle, and then stroll to neighboring shops and restaurants in downtown Elizabeth City. This month, visiting artists such as Jane Filer, Sue Bark, Dawn Kinney Martin and Catherine C. Martin will be showing their artwork at pop-up galleries in the downtown area starting at 10:00 a.m.   2 Downtown Waterfront Market (Every Saturday) [caption id="attachment_7308" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Fresh and local produce draw the crowds at the Downtown Waterfront Market.[/caption] Shop the "bounty of the county" at this weekly outdoor market that features delicious home-grown produce and fresh fare from local farmers and food purveyors. The following year, the first observance of "Juneteenth" took place, and this celebration of freedom has since been embraced by communities throughout the United States. This annual celebration will be held at Sheep-Harney Auditorium from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
